Marcela de Ulloa and the Lady Guard
Marcela de Ulloa was in charge of looking after and watching over all the maidens who surrounded the infanta Margarita. She is depicted dressed as a widow and conversing with another character who acted as a lady’s keeper.
From the way she dresses, I imagined Marcela as a nun with a strong character, severe and strict. And his companion, the keeper of ladies, like a knight submissive to Marcela’s orders. They form a single sculpture because I imagine them together, united in their goal of taking care of the safety of the infanta and the rest of the “Meninas”.
