Diego de Velázquez

On the left side of the painting is the self-portrait of the painter, who is standing in front of a large canvas and holding a palette and brush. The emblem he wears on his chest was later painted when he was admitted as a Knight of the Order of Santiago in 1659.

In my representation of this character, Velázquez is painting this picture, turning his head in order to be able to fix what he saw on the retina and then capture it on the canvas. That’s why in my sculpture the head of the figure swings left and right to be able to imitate the movement that the painter had to make so many times until the painting was finished.
