María Bárbola entered the palace the year the infanta was born and always accompanied her in her entourage. It is the dwarf we see on the right of the picture.
I imagined María’s life difficult, burdened with ridicule from the whole court that she had to endure given her “inferior” status. I did not want any element to stand out in the figure of the dwarf, but I wanted to reflect in the simplicity of the elements that make up her situation within the court.
